YouTube advertising ignores UGC
0 Comments Published August 29th, 2007 in Marketing, Media, News, Video, journalism. When Google introduced its ad model for YouTube, one could’ve expected that ads will show up in ALL cat-and-dog fighting videos (a.k.a. user-generated content or UGC). Instead, it appears that Google’s video ads will only show on videos supplied by the 3,000 professional content providers and 70 independent partner channels.
This quote from TVWeek:

Google has just announced at the AdSense blog that they have started a closed beta of AdSense for video.
Previously, it was possible to get a video ad instead of an image ad (granted you have opted in for video). This one is different and is probably tied to Google’s acquisition of Youtube.
It will now [...]
Marc Cuban was telling us back in October that Google is crazy to buy Youtube.
A lot of guys said Marc Cuban is crazy to say that.
His main point was that Google will turn into a GIANT target for all content companies who have their content pirated and put on display at Youtube.

I’m trying to validate my theory about Youtube playlists half-life. My previous experience showed me that a list of Marilyn Manson videos had 75% of video dissappear over a two-week period.
Now, I have a sample that could actually let me calculate it in a scientific manner. This list of youtube music videos contains 11,500 songs, [...]
Macworld starts today in San Francisco and the hype machine is churning all kinds of Apple news.

There’s an intrinsic problem with the two types of “numeric” values that Gootube videos get.
There’s little need for an elaborate argument. Just check out the Most Viewed and Highest Rated pages. The most viewed video of all time is The Evolution of Dance which is OK but once you look at the rest of the [...]
I’m not a pundit or an expert for that matter. Looking at Yahoo’s unspectacular performance and Google’s rise to dominance, it makes sense they’ll be looking for change.
They in this case is no other than Yahoo’s BoD. The big news is that Yahoo’s CFO, Susan Decker, gets promoted, while quite a few senior people leave. [...]
Youtube stars demand Google stock
0 Comments Published November 28th, 2006 in Community, Media, Video.Youtube founders got paid handsomely while the guys who work day (and night) to make Youtube what it is got nothing.
The guys behind popular DIY shows (like Ask a Ninja or Chad Vader), demand bigger dressing rooms, better microphones… See the whole list of demands:
If you have trouble with Mark’s Scottish accent, I suggest [...]
An article in The New York Times, showcases Google’s new muscles. The article focused on a new facility that Google is building. Here’s the photo:
The article speculates that it’s all related to Google keeping its leading position in search. I think these guys are probably right – though not 100 percent. I bet a lot [...]
